Convention on Combating Bribery of OECD Legal Instruments Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions.
The Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions ( the Convention ) was adopted on 21 November 1997 on the occasion of the Negotiating Conference. The Convention establishes legally binding standards to criminalise bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions and establishes an open-ended, peer-driven monitoring mechanism to ensure the thorough implementation of the international obligations. It is the first and only international anti-corruption instrument focused on the ‘supply side’ of the bribery transaction – the person or entity offering, promising or giving a bribe.
